Volunteer FAQ
How do I become a Volunteer?
The first step is to fill out an online volunteer inquiry form. Once that is complete, you will need to attend a volunteer orientation.
Can my children volunteer with me?
We accept volunteers as young as 8 years old but ask that an adult family member accompany children ages 8 to 12. Volunteers who are ages 13 to 17 may volunteer by themselves as long as they have their parent’s written permission. When you are scheduling groups of children we ask that there be at least one adult per 6 children. We prefer that parents accompany their children of any age the first time they volunteer.
Can I just show up?
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate walk-up volunteers. All volunteer shifts have a maximum capacity due to space and resource limitations. It is our goal to provide the best possible experience for each of our volunteers, so it is important for us to know in advance when you are coming in order to provide the supplies and supervision to get the job done.
What if I need to cancel?
Please Contact Us if you are canceling prior to the day of the dinner. If you are canceling on the day of the dinner please call (203) 732-7792.
Do you accept court related community service?
Court ordered community service is accepted on a case-by-case basis.
If you are seeking volunteer hours in connection to any court related matter or if you have been advised or sentenced to perform community service for a misdemeanor or legal violation, you are required to go through a screening and orientation prior to volunteering with Master’s Table Community Meals.
You are eligible to be a part of our court related community service program provided you meet the following criteria:
- You are at least 18 years old.
- Your charge is not related to sex, violence, weapon possession or any form of theft.
- You attend a mandatory orientation prior to serving any of your required hours. When you report for orientation, you must bring proof of your charge, written documentation from the probation officer, counselor, attorney or other official, including phone numbers, fax numbers and other contact information.
Is there a dress code?
Our dress code is casual, jeans and tennis shoes are best. We ask that everyone wear closed toes shoes (no sandals or flip flops). We don’t allow tight or revealing clothing. Volunteers may be asked to wear food service gloves or hats because of Health Department requirements. Master’s Table Community Meals will provide the hats and gloves.
Do you accommodate people with disabilities?
Every effort will be made to accommodate people with disabilities. For further information please Contact Us.
